Liverpool is well known as the birth place of the Beatles. Historically it was a busy port where cargo was imported and exported around the world. In recent years major redevelopment has taken place around the Albert Dock, which attracts many tourists with its shops and attractions. There are also extensive shopping facilities to be found in and around the city centre. There is a superb nightlife with some bars themed to The Beatles. The city boasts two cathedrals, one Anglican and one Catholic.
